Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea’s leading consumer electronics manufacturer, retained top position among home appliance labels sold in the U.S. during the April-June period this year.
According to market research firm TraQline on Wednesday, the market share of Samsung Electronics’ home appliance reached 16.7 percent, rising by 3.7 percentage points compared to the same period last year, in the second quarter ended on June 30. From the previous quarter, the share also gained 2.0 percentage points.
The research firm releases market share data on five home appliance product lines - refrigerator, washing machine, oven, microwave oven, and dish washer - every quarter.
The market share of its French-door refrigerator, a side-by-side refrigerator with a freezer at the bottom that has become popular in high-end refrigerator segment, hit 30.4 percent in the second quarter, keeping up best-selling rank for seven consecutive years.
Another high-end refrigerator called the Family Hub released in the U.S. in May this year also boosted Samsung’s share in the French-door refrigerator sector. Overall, Samsung coolers took up 18.8 percent of the U.S. market.
Share of Samsung brands in washing machine, oven, microwave oven, and dishwasher categories all rose. Its ovens became the second best seller, moving up from the fifth place a year ago to account for 15.2 percent.
