Samsung Electronics to diversify AddWash front-load washer lineup

Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea’s leading consumer electronics manufacturer, said on Wednesday that it will introduce three budget models of AddWash, its premium front-loading washing machine that has become hugely popular at home and abroad for its innovative feature that allows consumers to add laundry during mid-cycle.

According to Samsung Electronics, it will diversify the AddWash lineup in August by adding three budget models for consumers looking for smaller and more compact appliances. The price of newly added AddWash models is expected to be lower than the current premium models that are priced in between 1 million won ($876) and 2 million won.

Samsung’s move to diversify the AddWash lineup comes as the front-load washing machine has become a major product that accounts for seven of 10 front-load washers sold by the company this year.

Samsung Electronics launched AddWash in September, last year, and instantly, the product gained much popularity for its feature that makes it possible to add missed laundry during the wash cycle. In only two months after release, one in every two front-loading washing machines sold by the company was AddWash. Also, sales of AddWash doubled over the past 10 months compared to the previous year. It has also increased Samsung’s overall front-loading washing machine sales by more than 40 percent in June from a year ago.
