South Korea’s largest auto parts supplier Hyundai Mobis Co. said Wednesday that it has begun operations of its newest logistics center in northern Belgium to meet strong demand in Europe.

The new logistics center, located in Beringen in Belgium, covers a floor area of 56,000 square meters on a 123,000-square-meter site. The company began construction of the center in June last year and completed in March this year.

The new facility will serve as the hub for its six regional distribution centers across Europe - Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Hungary. It will also directly ship car parts to its jurisdictions including Belgium, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and the Republic of Ireland.

The new logistics center will not only help cut logistics and inventory costs but also shorten the lead time from order placing to delivery by more than two days, the company said.

Hyundai Motor Co. and its sister company Kia Motors Corp.’s cars running on the street across Europe amounted to 8.6 million units as of the end of last year, up more than twice from 4 million units a decade ago.
