Union workers of Hyundai Motor Co. and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., respectively South Korea’s largest automaker and shipbuilder, wage joint strikes partially for the first two days and full day on Friday. It would be the first joint strike by the two major industrial sites in 23 years.

Assembly workers of Hyundai Motor will go on the strike in rotation to disrupt production for two hours on Tuesday, four hours on Wednesday and Thursday. The first team will walk out for six hours on Friday and the second for full day. They won’t do any overtime starting Tuesday, the first day of legitimate strike period.

Earlier on July 13, the unionized workers of the nation’s biggest auto maker held a vote deciding on the strike. And out of the total 48,806 workers, 76.54 percent or 37,358 workers voted for the walkout.

On Tuesday, the office workers of Hyundai Heavy Industries will refuse to work for three hours. On the following day, all union workers will strike for four hours. They will work on Thursday and strike for seven hours on Friday.

The shipyard’s unionized workers decided on the strike after 59.96 percent of the total of 15,326 workers voted in favor of the walkout.
