South Korea’s Posco Daewoo Corp. said Sunday that it will export photovoltaic (PV) modules for rooftop mount worth 20 billion won ($17.6 million) to the United States.

The trading unit of the nation’s largest steelmaker Posco said it won orders for modules in total capacity of 30 megawatts (MW) to U.S. solar energy firms including Osgood Solar at Intersolar North America, an annual solar event and premier networking platform that recently took place in San Francisco.

Under the agreements, Posco Daewoo will supply PV modules to American solar power companies produced by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. for installation on rooftops of suburban houses and skyscrapers across the U.S.

The company beat cheaper competition through better quality, said a company official.

The trading arm of Daewoo was taken over by Posco in December 2000. It specializes in international trade, project organizing and resource development. It has also been running renewable energy division since 2010 and recently invested in solar farms.
