Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest smartphone maker by shipments, will unveil its premium Galaxy Note 7 smartphone at an unpacking event on Aug. 2 in New York, hopefully to take out the steam in the hype over rivaling Apple Inc.’s new iPhone 7 fall release.

On Wednesday, Samsung Electronics sent an invitation to major global media and developers to attend the unpacking event that will be simultaneously held in New York, London and Rio de Janeiro, according to the company.

The tech giant has moved up the Note debut date to August last year after unveiling the new Note series every September at the International unkausstellung Berlin (IFA), the world’s leading consumer electronics and home appliances trade show, in Germany, since its first launch, on hopes of stealing some of the media and consumer spotlight from the iPhone whose new series will be unveiled in September.

Samsung Electronics has named its latest device the Galaxy Note 7 instead of Galaxy Note 6 as the sequel of Galaxy Note 5 to create synergy with its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone that has done extraordinarily well since its release in March, redeeming much of the Galaxy reputation.

The company also plans to ride on its marketing advantage by getting the phone ready for the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Aug. 5 in which the Samsung brand would enjoy international exposure as the official wireless communications equipment partner of the global sports event. All unpacking events in New York, London, and Rio de Janeiro will be live-streamed via , according to the company.

On Tuesday, a French information technology (IT) online site called NowhereElse posted several images of what it claims actual photos of the Galaxy Note 7. Based on the leaked images and multiple industry sources, the Galaxy Note 7 is expected to come with a dual-curved edge design like the Galaxy S7 Edge. Its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5 has the curved edge only on the rear side. An unnamed insider said the Galaxy Note 7’s exterior design is similar to “a combination of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S7 Edge.”

The display size of the Galaxy Note 7 should be the same as its predecessor - 5.7-inch Quad HD Display. The mobile application processor (AP), which is referred to as the brain of mobile operations, will likely be loaded with either Exynos 8893 or Snapdragon 823 depending on the region. While the Galaxy Note 5’s rear camera had a 16-megapixel camera, the upcoming device will be loaded with a 12-megapixel camera, but in more improved performance thanks to Samsung Electronics’ innovative technology applied to its Galaxy S7 that allows users to take clear images even in the dark. The latest device is also expected to be applied with up to 6 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM).

Rumors have been circulating that the Galaxy Note 7 would be loaded with a battery with a capacity between 3,600 milliamp hours (mAh) and 4,000mAh, but it is most likely that the device would come with a 3,500mAh battery, up 500mAh from its predecessor’s. The Galaxy Note 7 will also restore a micro SD card slot that was removed from the Galaxy Note 5.

Insiders note that the new multifunctional device is expected to offer an iris and fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Note 7 is presumed to come in either three or four colors - black onyx, blue coral, silver titanium, and also gold platinum.
