South Korea’s leading telecom service operator KT Corp. on Tuesday announced that it will supply high dynamic range (HDR) contents for the first time among Internet TV service providers to add new level of image quality to home entertainment.

The company has developed a set-top box exclusively to allow HDR technology to allow convertibility to existing satellite, cable, and digital broadcasting services. KT through its service will provide 65 HDR contents together with Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. starting with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Mad Max: Fury Road starting from Wednesday to the end of the year. HDR is technology that expresses light and shade clearer by using display function lighter than that of existing TVs.

HDR technology in Ultra High Definition (UHD) screens would increase color vividness twice from the existing 4K UHD screens and raise the contrast by 10 times.

TV manufacturers across the world have been vying in new products with HDR technology. Korean electronics behemoth Samsung Electronics launched HDR applied quantum dot SUHD TVs this year. The industry expects that HDR broadcasting content service by KT would help raise demand for HDR TVs.

“With the content service, TVs with HDR technology would gain more popularity, said Kim Young-chan, an executive of Samsung Electronics.
