China’s Xiaomi executives visit Samsung phone, display makers

China’s leading smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. founder and CEO Lei Jun with a group of the company’s executives visiting South Korea on Wednesday are expected to meet with executives of Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung Display Co. to discuss business ventures, according to industry sources.

The executives of the Chinese smartphone company including the founder will be meeting with Jun Young-Hyun, president and general manager of Samsung Electronics’ device solutions division, who leads the company’s smartphone memory business. The meeting could influence Samsung Electronics’ chip shipment to the Chinese smartphone maker for more secure stable memory supply. Xiaomi that has independently developed its own mobile application processor relies on imports for semiconductors.

Lei Jun is also expected to meet with the management of Samsung Display Co., the world’s leading maker of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. Xiaomi and other Chinese phone makers have turned keen on OLED panels after Apple opted to install OLED for the panels for iPhones starting next year. Samsung Electronics flagship phones are all fitted with OLED and flexible OELD panels of Samsung Display. Its OELD also reportedly would go on top iPhones from next year.
