South Korea’s LG CNS Co. said Wednesday that it had sent a proposal to Saemangeum Development & Investment Agency to create digitalized and automated “smart farm” on the reclaimed land of Saemangeum Industrial Complex in North Jeolla Province in February.

Smart farm refers to futuristic farm that incorporates information and communication technology (ICT) to control temperature, humidity and sunshine amount for farming.

The project is estimated to cost 380 billion won ($326.2 million), of which will mostly be funded by overseas investors and the rest pooled from LG Group affiliates.

Of the 76-hectare field, 26 hectare would be reserved for research and development for automated farming. The yields will exported as not to damage farmers in the region.

The ICT solution company plans to advance with the project as soon as it gets a nod from the government and farmers. It already ran a smart farm with Gyeonggi Provincial Government in 2011.
