South Korea’s outdoor apparel brands are pulling out of the market one by one as Korea’s outdoor craze fizzles out.

According to the fashion industry Thursday, Fashion Group Hyungji Co. (Hyungji) will withdraw its flagship outdoor wear brand “NorthCape,” while another company PAL&C Co. plans to pull its outdoor label “OFFROAD” off the market.

Hyungji notified the plan to more than 70 NorthCape franchises early this month and is mulling compensation packages. The company will allow them to operate to sell their inventory stock and offer subsidies if they choose to run other brands under Hyungji umbrella.

NorthCape is a British brand that Hyungji has been selling locally through license acquired in 2011. The brand has been selling nationwide from 2012.

The outdoor fashion fervor that led to scores of copycat brands was short-lived.

Fila Korea’s “Fila Outdoor” disappeared last year and Kumkang Shoes Co.’s “Helly Hansen” pulled out. Shinsegae International Co. also withdrew outdoor brand “Salomon.”
