South Korea’s Kosdaq-listed Nano Co. that manufactures nitrogen oxide (NOx) filter will supply its selective catalytic reduction (SCR) filters to American electronics tycoon General Electric Co. (GE), according to the company head.

In a recent interview with Maeil Business Newspaper, Shin Dong-woo, chief executive director of Nano said that GE opted to use the Korean company’s SCR filters after elaborate evaluation on technology and production capabilities for nearly two years.

“Nano was able to prove technical expertise in producing nanometer-class catalyst which only a few companies around the world bear,” said Shin. GE so far sourced products related to environmental sector from only four companies in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

GE also opted for Nano to make bigger inroads to the Asian market including Korea, India, and Vietnam. The American electronics giant is pitching to win deals of replacing aged power reactors in Korea and building new ones in India and Vietnam.

Last month, GE obtained an order to upgrade steel mill facilities from the nation’s leading steel maker Posco. The American conglomerate will fix and replace internal parts of four power generators and steam turbines to improve their performance, and it will be using Nano’s products including SCR filters in the project. Nano supplies will increase in sync with increased workload for the U.S. company.

Nano’s SCR filter is a minute-scale catalytic converter that filters out 99.9 percent of nitrogen oxide blamed for fine dust pollution. The company’s strength lies in its ability to produce from titanium dioxide, the base material for the catalytic filter, to SCR filters as well as having production and testing equipments, the company claims.

Nano posted 29.9 billion won ($25.6 million) in sales last year, and expects to record over 60 billion won this year.
