South Korea’s major department stores will start annual summer sales this week, earlier than as a rare early arrival of heat wave has affected Koreans’ summer plans. Each department store is preparing huge promotional events to stimulate spending that has recently turned conservative amid foggy economic prospects at home and abroad.
Lotte Department Store will offer summer goods of about 700 brands at discounts from June 30 to July 24. Hyundai Department Store is ready to hold an annual summer sales in its 15 outlets between June 30 and July 17. During the sales period, Hyundai Department Store will award a gift card worth 100 million won ($84,502) to one customer who wins a drawing contest. The country’s another major retailer Shinsegae Department Store will also launch a big summer sales event for summer shoes and clothes for vacation across its 11 stores during the same period.
Galleria Department Store will offer vacation items such as accessories, lingerie and sportswear at discounts across all of its stores starting Thursday. AK Plaza will also have a summer sales event, offering swim suits and outdoor products at 10 to 50 percent discounts.
