AIIB`s 2nd annual meeting to be held in Jeju Island in June next year

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance announced on Sunday that Minister Yoo Il-ho, who doubles as deputy prime minister for economic affairs, participated in the first meeting of the Chinese-initiated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) held in Beijing, China, on Saturday to successfully bring next year’s meeting in Jeju Island, Korea, and suggest plans for cooperation between the country and AIIB.

The annual meeting of AIIB is a global large-scale financial meeting attended by more than 2,000 finance ministers, governors of central banks, heads of international organizations and business men of 57 countries.

Members of the meeting this time have unanimously decided to host the second AIIB meeting in Jeju Island, Korea, from June 16 to June 18 in 2017.

The ministry said that Korea would start to play a leading role in development of infrastructure and discussion of economic growth in Asia as a host country of the meeting right after the close of the meeting.

With this as an opportunity, the Korean government plans to strengthen the nation’s role and right to speak in AIIB and actively help Korean companies to enter Asian infrastructure markets.
