Korea’s Huons wins patents on technology for anti-aging pill

South Korea’s beauty and healthcare product maker Huons Co. said it secured patents in eight countries on an anti-aging technology using natural herbs that would be in the form of capsule or pill to be swallowed rather than applied on the face to join the global burgeoning beauty supplement market.

The technology of defying aging process by boosting collagen and skin firmness through extracts from Honeybush, a herb found in Africa, developed by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) has already secured a patent in Korea. The company will run clinical tests to market a product next year once the prototype is approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).

Huons recently acquired a local dietary supplement maker Chung Ho Natural to tap into the related market. It is working on various dietary supplements including anti-aging care, rhinitis and atopic dermatitis treatments using extracts from rosa multiflora fruits and lactobacillus.

Lee Chan-whi, a researcher at Hana Financial Investment Co. said the company’s latest reorganization move to operate under a holding company Huons Global has been negative on the stock price. But the new anti-aging technology could build upward momentum for the stock, he added.
