North Korea on Monday wrapped up a four-day seventh congress of the Workers’ Party- held for the first time in 36 years - by anointing the chair title to Kim Jong-un, who was previously referred to as the first party secretary. The permanent members to the highest decision-making central committee of the Political Bureau were increased to five from three.

The new title of the party chairman was tweaked from the address to his grandfather Kim Il-sung, the founder of North Korea with posthumous title as the eternal president. The party chief title has been revived since his grandfather last used it before party reorganization in 1966.

Cabinet Prime Minister Pak Pong-ju and the party’s Secretariat Choe Ryong-hae became the added members to the politburo, further strengthening its role over state affairs.

The other members of the highest decision body are the supreme leader Kim, Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People`s Assembly, Hwang Pyong-so, director of the Korean People’s Army, Cabinet Prime Minister Pak Pong-ju and the party’s Secretariat Choe Ryong-hae.
