KEB Hana Card Co. became the latest among Korean credit card issuers to turn to the Southeast Asian market in search for new revenue base amid worsening profitability from low-interest environment at home.

KEB Hana Card said Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Myanmar Payment Union, the country’s sole payment service provider, to collaborate on advancing into Myanmar’s credit card service market. Under the agreement, KEB Hana Card will share its knowledge and skills in credit card operation with Myanmar Payment Union and also provide support in payment and settlement processing network with foreign credit cards issuers.

The company has been in discussions with local companies to enter China, Japan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

KEB Hana Card invited 120 local government and bank officials to pitch its credit card business in Cambodia on April 27. In the previous week, it signed an agreement with China-based Bank of Jilian for business venture.
