South Korea’s public training premises and accommodation facilities across the nation will be opened to the public during an extended weekend holiday following the national holiday of Children’s Day on May 5.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF), which came under fire for hastily making the Friday a voluntary holiday earlier this week to stimulate consumer spending, on Friday gave out orders to public institutions to open their recreational facilities to the public.

The order was given out to 34 government enterprises and training institutes nationwide, including the National Pension Service (NPS) that has Cheongpung Resort in Jecheon and Taekwondo Promotion Foundation with Taekwondowon in Muju. The public facilities can be rented out at the basic rate. Sports fields, auditoriums and parking lots owned by 70 government entities, including Korea Energy Power Corp. (KEPCO) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), will be available for free.

Applications and reservations can be made online or by visits to the organization.
