LG Hausys, materials arm of South Korea’s conglomerate LG Group, is ready to take off in the North American auto skin market after it completed the construction of its automotive skin manufacturing plant in the United States.

The Korean company held an opening ceremony of the factory on Tuesday (local time) in Gordon County, Georgia. LG Hausys CEO Oh Jang-soo, Georgia state representative John Meadows, Consul General in Atlanta Kim seong-jin attended the ceremony.

The newly-built 9,000-square-meter (96,875-square-feet) factory has an annual production capacity of 6 million square meters of auto skins. The surface materials are used for seat cover, door panel, and dashboard and will be shipped to leading finished automakers with factories in North America such as General Motors Co., Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp.

Last year, LG Hausys was honored to receive a ‘supplier performance award’ by Johnson Controls, the top automotive parts conglomerate based in the U.S., said an unnamed official at the company.

LG Hausys now runs auto skin manufacturing facilities in Ulsan, Korea; Tianjin, China; and Georgia, the U.S. Given the increasing demand for automobiles in North America, the company is considering adding a plant to manufacture interior skins for dashboard and door panel.
