Tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. has remained unrivaled in the global commercial display market, maintaining its leadership position for seven consecutive years since 2009. Last year it achieved a record high market share of 28.1 percent in terms of volume, according to data of global industry research firm IHS Inc. It also achieved a record high 28.8 percent market share in the fourth quarter ended December.

It was more than twice as high as the 10.5 percent market share achieved by Japan’s NEC Corp. that was followed by LG Electronics Inc. with 10.3 percent, Philips N.V. with 3.3 percent and Sharp Corp. with 3.2 percent. Samsung, NEC and LG are the three dominating players in the global signage market.

The key to success in the signage market is a capability to provide distinctive and tailored solutions to meet the customers’ demands. “We will continue to lead the market by releasing products that will meet the needs of the customers and maintaining sales growth, based on our unique innovation capability," said Kim Seok-gi, Samsung Electronics’ senior vice president of visual display business.

Last year Samsung Electronics acquired Yesco Electronics, a U.S. light-emitting diode (LED) display manufacturer, to expand its business into LED signage. It has recently installed the world’s largest LED scoreboard at Incheon Moon-hak Baseball Stadium in Korea.
