Ventex CEO Koh Kyung-chan introduces Army Face at the company headquarters in Seoul.

South Korea’s textile company Ventex Co. is working to land a deal to supply its camouflage facial mask and special-purpose clothing and other textile supplies to Korean military post exchanges from next year after first marketing the products in shops around military bases in the country this year.

In a seminar hosted by the Korea Association of Defense Industry Studies (KADIS), the company unveiled a face mask that can shield soldiers from enemies in a second and be easily taken off, reducing the hassle of putting on and removing the face paint every time. The mask pack reusable for at least 10 times would be available at 10,000 won ($8.56) per each. The mask pack was developed by its technology in making textile that can aid the skin and body circulation.

It also has come up with prototypes of functional clothing, sleeping bags and fire-proof underwear. The company plans to expand its share in the defense market by applying its licensed technologies in extra protective fabric-making. It is also in discussion to supply chemical materials for functional cloth-making for soldiers.

Once it lands a deal with the military, Ventex plans to expand facility in its manufacturing base in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. In the longer run, the company plans to join with the defense ministry to export Korean defense materials starting with Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Its chief executive Koh Kyung-chan said the company aims to achieve sales of 40 billion won this year and up the share of exports in sales to 70 percent from current 50 percent.
