GS Engineering & Construction Corp. (E&C) bagged a deal worth about 1.99 billion Singapore dollars ($1.46 billion) from Singapore’s Land of Transport Authority (LTA) to construct the world’s largest vehicle depot, it said Tuesday.

According to GS E&C, the project named T301 is the largest construction project of Singapore’s LTA and the depot the Korean company will build would be the world’s first building-type rail and bus depot for three subway lines that pass Changi Airport in Singapore.

Under the contract, the Korean builder will construct a two-story building with one underground floor on a 320,000-square meter site. Upon completion, the vehicle garage will have the capacity to house 985 train vehicles and 815 buses. The builder will also construct a 1.45 km-tunnel. The builder aims to complete the construction by February 2024.

With the latest deal, GS E&C will be sorely responsible for T301 orders worth over 2 trillion won in total including the T301’s preparatory construction T3008 awarded last June. So far, GS E&C has landed seven subway construction contracts worth 3.2 trillion won in total in Singapore.
