South Korea’s surgery robot developer Curexo Inc. said Monday its U.S.-based affiliate Think Surgical Inc. (TSI) inked a deal to supply its surgical robot system for artificial joint operations to U.S hospitals, making its first inroad into the U.S. market that accounts for 61 percent of the global artificial joint operation market.

Under the deal, TSI will supply two surgery robots named The TSolution One Surgical System for Saint Vincent Hospital in Ohio and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, both which have a long history and reputation in the region.

The TSolution One offers more accurate and precise surgical results for arthritis and joint replacements, the company claims. Curexo’s surgical system has only 0.05 mm error of margin in surgery operation, compared with skilled surgeon’s 2-3 mm. It also boasts just 1 percent of reoperation rate compared to surgeons` 15 percent. The TSolution One system is priced at around $1 million per unit.

Lee Jae-joon, head of Curexo, explained that the deal opens the way to make foray into the U.S., adding that when the system is successfully applied to surgeries, Curexo will further expand its presence into the global market.

Curexo will add knee joint replacement technology into the system on top of its hip joint replacement technology. After addressing technical issues, the robot will be under test trials. An official of Curexo said that TSI engineers have visited Korea to better prepare for knee joint replacement surgeries.
