South Korea’s memory chip and display equipment and parts maker Wizit Co. plans to strengthen 3D printing business for its new revenue source amid a slump in the semiconductor and display market by setting a plant capable of printing out industrial products in metal.

Wizit said on Sunday that it will build a 3D printer plant in Seoul to begin mass production from July. It already secured a 3,300 square-meter building to install 3D printers.

The metal 3D printers will be supplied by Sentrol, a local developer of mid- to large-sized metal printers for industrial reproduction.

Wizit recorded sales of 32.1 billion won ($27 million) last year, posting over a 10 percent growth every year. Its operating profit also jumped 17.8 percent from a year ago to 3.8 billion won last year.

Kim Myung-sik, director of Wizit, explained that there have been services that use 3D printers to print out customized products for consumers, but Wizit’s plant will be the nation’s first plant that prints out industrial machineries in metal on a large scale."

At the initial stage, the plant will turn out the metal frame used for molding process.
