Park Dong-hoon, vice president of South Korea’s automaker Renault Samsung Motors Co., was selected as president of the carmaker. The automaker announced on Thursday that CEO Francois Provost is expected to be appointed vice chairman of Renault China and president of Dongfeng Renault Automobile Company on April 1. Vice President Park who doubles as head of the sales headquarters was nominated for president. Park would become the carmaker’s first Korean CEO.

He has built his career in the imported car industry for 27 years before he entered Renault Samsung. He was in charge of sales in the Volvo business division of Hanjin Construction in 1978 and has served as vice president of Gojin Motor Imports since 2001 to import cars from Volkswagen AG and Audi AG and sell them. He was credited for his ability to be appointed the first president of Volkswagen Korea in 2005. He has worked for the company until 2013.

After moving to Renault Samsung, he succeeded in making QM3 a hit and has recently taken the lead in the restoration of the company with SM6 at the forefront. Park graduated from Choong Ang High School and Inha University, majoring in construction engineering.
