LG vows to up compensation for R&D talents

LG on Wednesday awarded 22 R&D teams from different units for developing source technologies and innovative products. Among awardees, 11 researchers were promoted, including six senior researchers moving up to executives. This year’s incentives doubled to over 2.5 billion won ($2.1 million) from last year.
LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo who attended the ceremony encouraged R&D talents to develop technologies and products that could elevate the value of users’ life, promising sufficient compensation for researchers.
This year’s honor went to the team that developed a refrigerator compressor, which is as compact as 60 percent of the large 900-liter model, yet not compromising on energy efficiency.
The main prizes went to 15 teams, including LG Display team for developing high dynamic range (HDR) technology for organic light emitting display (OLED) panels, and LG Chem team for improving desalination technologies. Special prizes were given to four teams for coordinated efforts with other affiliates. Another two teams won awards for cooperation with academic institutes.
Separately, LG Electronics, LG Display and LG Chem promoted 50 researchers and advisors to executive level researchers. LG Group now has over 400 senior researchers and advisors.
