South Korea’s top ramyeon maker Nongshim Co. announced Monday that it released “Shin Ramyun The Red Big Bowl,” a containerized version of Shin Ramyun The Red, which the company introduced in August 2023.
The new product has a Scoville score of 7,500, the same as the Shin Ramyun The Red in its packet form and more than double the Scoville score of the original Shin Ramyun at 3,400. The Scoville scale is a numerical measurement of capsaicin concentration recorded in Scoville Heat Units (SHU).
Nongshim explained that Shin Ramyun The Red Big Bowl was released to allow consumers to enjoy the product more conveniently, with the company selling more than 20 million packets within just four months of its release.
Shin Ramyun The Red ranked in the top 10 in terms of sales in the bagged ramyeon market for the third quarter of 2023.
“We will continue this spice craze in the instant noodle market that began with Shin Ramyun The Red with the big bowl version,” a Nongshim official said.
