Samsung Electronics Co. executed an organizational reshuffle on Monday, switching to a three-business team system by forming System-on-Chip (SoC), LSI Business, and Image Sensor Business teams under the System LSI Business under Device Solution (DS) Division that is responsible for semiconductors. The move is likely geared towards the specialization required to become the top player in system semiconductors by 2030.

The SoC Business Team will handle Samsung’s application processors (APs), exemplified by Exynos. Samsung plans to reintroduce Exynos AP in the upcoming Galaxy S24, set to launch in early 2024.

The LSI Business Team will oversee Samsung Electronics’ overall system semiconductors excluding SoCs, such as Ultra-Wideband (UWB) chips and Display Driver ICs (DDI).

The Image Sensor Business Team aims to close in on Sony, with Samsung recently unveiling a new 50-megapixel image sensor to rival the Japanese company. A product planning office was also formed within the Memory Business Unit, a move seen as a response to the trend of launching specialized products such as the low-power (LP) Double Data Rate (DDR)5 that is tailored to specific customer demands.

President Nam Seok-woo, responsible for Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure, also saw a minor change in his role as his scope of responsibility expanded from manufacturing to manufacturing & technology. Vice President Kim Hong-kyung, who previously held roles in the DS division as director of business support and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will now also take on the role of planning team leader.

Within the Device Experience (DX) division, Lee Won-jin, the former head of the MX business unit who was previously a vice president at Google LLC, resigned from his post. Vice President Kim Yong-soo, recently recruited by Samsung Electronics, and Han Sang-sook, Vice President of the Visual Display (VD)’s Service Business Team, will assume his position. Lim Seong-taek, currently in charge of the Middle East as vice president, will oversee the DX division in South Korea.
