Korea Seven Co.’s corner store chain 7-Eleven announced on Tuesday that the fourth edition of a Henri Matisse-inspired wine with his work printed on the label, “Henri Matisse Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc,” topped 40,000 bottles in cumulative sales just three weeks after its release on November 1.

This achievement is more than 20 times the sales of the best-selling wine at convenience stores, and the product has occupied the top spot in the wine category since its release.

White wine sales at 7-Eleven also rose 2.5 times during the first 20 days of November compared to the same period a year ago.

7-Eleven attributed the wine’s explosive popularity to the fact that consumers can enjoy a high-quality taste at a reasonable price in the mid-10,000 won ($7.77) range.

As the first batch of the wine is about to be sold out, 7-Eleven plans to secure a second batch to continue the sale.

For those who pay with event cards, the convenience store will also provide a 20 percent in-store discount until the end of this month.

The previously released wine set consisting of three bottles with Henri Matisse’s art - Nadia with Smooth Hair, Big Head of Katia, and The Heart - printed on the labels have also consistently received positive responses, selling over 300,000 bottles to date.

“As wine has become more popular in recent years, there has been a growing interest in casual daily wines,” an official from 7-Eleven said. “Henri Matisse Allan Scott Sauvignon Blanc is expected to continue to be popular as it is the best ‘value for money’ wine that satisfies the aspects of price, taste, and design.”
