In a bid to aid in the reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, South Korea’s POSCO International has unveiled plans to establish modular manufacturing facilities, aiming to contribute to the restoration of critical infrastructure in the war-torn country.

This accomplishment stems from the activation of POSCO International’s local network, fostering anticipated collaboration among various POSCO Group companies.

Vice Chairman Jeong Tak of POSCO International conducted a visit to Ukraine, engaging with Mykolaiv Governor Vitaliy Kim from Monday to Wednesday. During this visit, a pivotal agreement was inked between the two entities, symbolized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop new steel modular manufacturing sites within the province, POSCO International said on Wednesday.

Mykolaiv is the location of POSCO International’s grain terminal. POSCO International completed the grain terminal in 2019 and has owned it ever since. The company retained its local workforce and partially operated the terminal even after the Russian-Ukrainian war. Vitaliy Kim is also an ethnic Korean.

POSCO’s block-building approach is anticipated to significantly reduce construction timelines, deemed crucial for the swift reconstruction of essential infrastructural components across Ukraine.

Modular construction, a technique involving the assembly of structures in block-like segments, boasts the potential to trim project durations by as much as 60 percent when compared to alternative construction methods.
