Samsung Electronics Co. and Naver Cloud Corp. have joined forces to enter the market for “intelligent” office buildings, recognizing the growing demand for managing smart devices, home appliances, and platform services coherently in various office environments.

On Monday, Samsung Electronics and Naver Cloud signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to accelerate the growth of the future-oriented smart office building business domestically and internationally. This marks the first business agreement between the two companies since Samsung Electronics developed a business-to-business (B2B) Integrated Offering Office in 2022.

The first joint project will involve providing solutions for Naver’s 1784 new office building. Samsung Electronics plans to introduce a package product that integrates its SmartThings application, 5G, and other technologies into Naver Cloud’s proprietary solutions. Samsung Electronics aims to integrate all devices in the office building by using internal as well as external solutions and services. This integration will enable automatic entry registration and elevator calls when employees park, as well as preset lighting and temperature conditions at their desks. Additionally, robots will deliver office documents and parcels and autonomously handle cleaning tasks.

“The goal is to achieve ‘calm technology’ through devices, solutions, and services that enable integrated management,” an official from Samsung Electronics said, unveiling the company’s goal to go beyond building management system (BMS) control and build a platform that extends from energy access to security management that is focused on user-centric expansion. Calm technology is when the interaction between the user and technology occurs in the user’s periphery.

Both companies have also agreed to collaborate on B2B product development and joint sales and to facilitate this, a working group will be formed to strengthen cooperation. The companies also plan to explore international markets based on successful cases of applying solutions domestically.
