The Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport, known as TK New Airport, will have two cargo terminals each in Gunwi, Daegu, and Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province.

Lee Cheol-woo, governor of North Gyeongsang Province, is expected to meet with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong on Monday to finalize discussions on the installation of the dual cargo terminals.

During the meeting, Governor Lee plans to reiterate his request to incorporate the establishment of two cargo terminals into the basic plan for the new airport, a proposal he has consistently presented to the government.

Following the meeting between Governor Lee and Minister Won, representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of National Defense, Daegu City, and North Gyeongsang Province will convene for a third meeting to further discuss the implementation of two cargo terminals.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to guide subsequent discussions among relevant agencies regarding the future direction of the cargo terminal project.

The dispute over the cargo terminal’s location arose during the pre-feasibility study for the new airport, with the initial suggestion of placing the terminal in Gunwi leading to objections from Uiseong. In response, North Gyeongsang Province proposed the installation of one cargo terminal in each location.

In response, Uiseong County proposed to the ministry through the provincial government that the second cargo terminal at the new airport be built on the west side of the runway.

The governor has been proposing dual cargo terminals as a solution to the conflict over the location of a cargo terminal, with a cargo terminal for passenger aircraft in Gunwi and a cargo terminal for cargo aircraft in Uiseong.

In light of the conflict over the cargo terminal’s location, Governor Lee proposed a solution involving the establishment of separate passenger and cargo terminals in Gunwi and Uiseong.
