Emart24, the convenience store chain under South Korean retail giant Emart Inc., has partnered with YMK Construction to sell prefabricated housing products for the first time in the industry.

The modular homes come in three variants - single-story 15-pyeong (49.6-square meter) homes and two-story 20 and 25-pyeong homes. Emart24 is offering different sized homes for customers interested in unique and flexible living spaces.

To make a purchase, customers can visit Emart24’s offline stores nationwide and submit applications until the end of this month.

Customers will later receive a URL on their mobile phones, enabling them to explore the 3D model house, both its interior and exterior, before consultations with Emart24’s expert advisors and payments.

Once the payment is completed, the installation of the modular home can take as little as two months at the location of the customer’s choice, excluding the design and permit processing time.

The buyers need to possess authorized land for installation. The construction process uses the “panelizing method,” where components like walls, roofs, and floors are pre-manufactured and then assembled on the buyer’s land after completing basic groundwork such as water, electricity, and septic tank connections.

Customization options are also available to cater to the buyer’s preferences, including changes to interior and exterior designs and space configuration.

The panelizing method is gaining attention for its ability to reduce construction time, costs, and waste while also offering high performance in terms of earthquake resistance, insulation, and fire safety, making it an environmentally friendly choice compared to conventional housing construction.

“In response to the growing trend of workation, or vacationing while working, and the new culture of working in the city for five days and recreating in the countryside on weekends and holidays, we have introduced a prefabricated home product that can be used as a second home,” said an Emart24 official.

Emart24 has a track record of introducing unique and unconventional products, such as imported cars, karaoke boxes, screen golf rooms, and electric vehicles, which have been well-received by the public.
