Shinsegae Department Store announced on Sunday that “Sweet Park,” its specialized dessert zone at its Gangnam branch, drew a staggering 1.4 million visitors just one month since it opened.

Opened on February 15th, 2024, on the basement floor of Shinsegae Gangnam branch, Sweet Park occupies an area of 5,300 square meters that houses over 40 domestic and international dessert brands. Notably, the opening of the first Korean branches of renowned overseas brands such as Belgium’s royal chocolate brand “Pierre Marcolini” and Parisian bakery “Mille et Un” captured shoppers’ attention.

Shinsegae Gangnam has seen dessert sales surge by 201 percent compared to the same period in 2023 since Sweet Park’s launch, with overall food sales increasing by nearly 50 percent. Among the customers purchasing desserts, the number of new customers with no previous purchase history at Shinsegae Gangnam increased by 90 percent compared to the same period in 2023. It is worth noting that more than half (54 percent) of these new customers are in their 20s and 30s, indicating a successful targeting of the younger demographic. Combining new and existing customers, sales from customers in their 20s increased by 295 percent compared to 2023 while those in their 30s increased by 138 percent.

Customers can taste a variety of bread from renowned bakeries such as “Jean Boulangerie” with 30 years of tradition in Seoul’s Nakseongdae, as well as SCOFF and BORISSOU PARIS.
