SK Inc. C&C, an information and communications technology company of South Korea’s SK Group, announced Thursday that it will pilot a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based anomaly diagnosis service for power plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co.

SK Inc. C&C will utilize a generative AI-based control and integration platform to support the entire process of responding to failures at manufacturing sites, including the detection of equipment and facility abnormalities, cause analysis, report generation, and e-mail notification to the person in charge.

In particular, the pilot project will focus on analyzing abnormalities and failures and creating reports, which are typically the most time-consuming steps in the anomaly diagnosis process.

Normally, it takes a minimum of several days to several weeks to find the cause of a malfunction and determine a course of action after occurrence. However, by employing generative AI technology for the analysis of similar cases, the time required to propose a solution can be significantly reduced, according to SK Inc. C&C.

Additionally, generative AI compiles anomaly diagnosis reports based on reference to past similar cases, making the information more concise and clearer.

The person in charge only needs to make a final review of the report created by the generative AI, which saves a lot of time compared to writing the report manually.

The transmission of reports to relevant departments will also be conducted through generative AI, the company added.

Doosan Enerbility is currently fostering gas turbines, hydrogen, offshore wind power, and small modular reactors (SMR) as growth businesses, and is also expanding into new businesses such as digital solutions, eco-friendly lithium recycling processes, and innovative material development.

Doosan Enerbility aims to improve energy production and operation efficiency by actively utilizing digital technologies such as generative AI and cloud computing throughout the entire phases of power generation equipment and facility operation.
