Hyundai Rotem, the South Korean rolling stock manufacturer, has received a heartfelt thank you pamphlet from the Ukrainian government for its crucial role in evacuating refugees during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to the company on Wednesday, the upper right corner of thew pamphlet says, “Hyundai Rotem’s railway carriages became a lifeline for Ukrainian kids and their mothers in the spring of 2022. Thank you. Let’s keep them going!”

The pamphlet goes on to explain that “Korean trains connect the entire country from the Polish border to the frontline in the East. They not only evacuated people but also transported critical humanitarian aid in the worst days.”

The pamphlet features 17 photographs of refugees and their families taken both inside and outside the Hyundai Rotem railway carriages, showcasing the impact and significance of their role in the evacuation process.

The railway carriages mentioned in the pamphlet refer to the 90-carriage contract awarded to Hyundai Rotem in 2010, which is under maintenance until 2027. These carriages are semi-high-speed electric trains with operating speeds of up to 160 km/h. They operate on the intercity railway network connecting the capital, Kyiv with major cities around the country as well as neighboring Poland.

Hyundai Rotem has demonstrated its capabilities by establishing a 24-hour maintenance emergency response system and an advanced Maintenance Management Information System (MMIS) for efficient operational support and business performance. The company extended the maintenance contracts with Ukraine Railway Speed Company (URSC the operator of the state-run Ukrainian Railways.), in 2015 and 2017.

In line with the “Peace Solidarity Initiative” jointly announced by the Korean and Ukrainian leaders in July, Hyundai Rotem is actively discussing further collaborative opportunities and projects.
