LG Uplus Corp., South Korea’s third-largest wireless carrier, has taken another step towards catering to the diverse needs of young consumers by launching a range of new mobile plans, known as Nerget. These personalized plans offer extensive options, allowing customers to tailor their mobile interactions according to their individual usage patterns and preferences.

At an online press conference held on Thursday, LG Uplus unveiled Nerget, a next-generation mobile service platform designed to meet the varying requirements of its customers, with a particular focus on the younger demographic.

Nerget offers 16 distinct mobile plans, ensuring that customers have a wide array of choices. The plans start with a basic 1GB data allowance and go up to 24GB, with data increments available in 2 to 3GB units. The pricing structure starts from 30,000 won ($22.3) per month, with increments of 1,000 won.

One standout feature of Nerget is the flexibility it provides for data speeds for the 7GB, 14GB, 19GB, and 24GB plans.

Customers can select their preferred QoS speed, with options including 1Mbps and 3Mbps. The 3Mbps speed enables users to stream videos at 720p quality, making it suitable for content consumption.

What sets Nerget apart from existing mobile plans is its extensive range of options catering to users who consume less than 30GB of data per month.

Previously, LG Uplus customers with an average monthly data usage of around 3GB were required to subscribe to either a 6GB standard plan, priced at 35,250 won with contract discounts, or an 8GB direct plan, priced at 34,000 won.

With Nerget, the users can opt for the 3GB plan, priced at 31,000 won, potentially saving between 3,000 to 4,000 won each month.

Kim Gwi-hyun, head of Telecommunication Life Platform at LG Uplus, emphasized that the target audience for Nerget plans is primarily individuals in their 20s, adding that this demographic includes both those who use minimal data and those who prefer unlimited data, thus prompting the need for diversified low-capacity and unlimited data plans within Nerget.

Nerget distinguishes itself as a prepaid, contract-free mobile service. Unlike traditional postpaid billing, users subscribe to Nerget as they would to online streaming services like Netflix, paying in advance for their chosen plan.

This approach provides users with the freedom to change plans or cancel their subscription at any time, with refunds available based on the remaining days and data.

Another aspect of the new plans is that Nerget operates as a standalone mobile-only service, separate from LG Uplus’s regular and online-exclusive direct plans.

This approach aims to gauge customer interest and preferences during a promotional period, which will run until the end of March next year. Following this period, LG Uplus will decide whether to make Nerget a permanent fixture in its service offerings.
