South Korea’s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. is stepping up efforts to hire hydrogen experts in a move to accelerate its hydrogen business by establishing an overall ecosystem encompassing production, storage, transportation, and trade.

According to sources on Tuesday, Hyundai Motor recently issued a recruitment notice for specialized talent across its hydrogen ecosystem business.

The company is looking for individuals with over three years of experience in ten specific fields, including the development of energy storage cells for hydrogen electric vehicles, the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems, medium and long-term product strategies and planning for commercial hydrogen vehicles, establishment of medium and long-term pricing strategies for the hydrogen business, hydrogen market intelligence, and medium-to-long-term strategic planning.

With the new hires, Hyundai Motor plans to add more than double digits to its workforce at a time and further expand its hydrogen ecosystem.

Until now, the carmaker has been synonymous with the popularization of hydrogen-powered vehicles, particularly the Nexo, which has become a symbol of the company’s vision for the hydrogen sector.

Recently, Hyundai Motor has expanded its focus beyond passenger vehicles to include commercial vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell systems, highlighting its commitment to broadening the hydrogen ecosystem.

During the company’s CEO Investor Day event in May, Hyundai Motor President Chang Jae-hoon said the company will pursue a hydrogen business that encompasses the entire life cycle, including eco-friendly logistics systems using hydrogen energy and the sale of hydrogen vehicles.

Hyundai Motor is recognized as one of the most active companies in the global market when it comes to pursuing hydrogen-related projects.

According to market research firm SNE Research, Hyundai Motor has maintained its leading position in the hydrogen vehicle sector for several years.

In the hydrogen fuel cell system business, Hyundai Motor aims to increase its annual production capacity to 700,000 units by 2030. To achieve this goal, the carmaker completed a hydrogen fuel cell production facility in Guangzhou, China, earlier this year.
