Asan Medical Center, one of South Korea’s top medical institutions, has once again garnered international acclaim in a testament to its commitment to healthcare excellence. In Newsweek’s recently unveiled “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2024” rankings, Asan Medical Center was among the top 10 in five out of twelve clinical specialties.

The hospital, operated by the ASAN Foundation, came in third place in endocrinology, fourth in urology, fifth in gastroenterology, sixth in oncology, and eight in neurology. This achievement elevates Asan Medical Center to a league alongside renowned medical institutions including the Mayo and Cleveland clinics in the United States, further solidifying its reputation as a global leader in healthcare.

The rankings were determined via an extensive survey conducted by Newsweek in collaboration with global market data firm Statista Inc. Over the course of two months, healthcare professionals from more than 30 countries participated in the survey, providing insights and evaluations of specialized hospitals worldwide.

Within Korea, Asan Medical Center continues to be at the forefront of healthcare excellence, leading the way in a total of six specialties - endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery. Earlier in 2023, the medical center ranked 29th among the world’s hospitals and was Korea’s top hospital among 250 globally renowned medical institutions in Newsweek’s “World’s Best Hospitals” list.

The institution also received notable placements in other specialties in addition to its top 10 rankings, with gastroenterology, oncology, neurology, and orthopedic surgery all moving up from their previous year’s position. Cardiology and cardiac surgery also saw their rankings climb by six and two spots respectively.
