LG Chem Ltd. unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI) analysis solution that will be accessible to all employees and aimed at fundamentally reshaping work dynamics.

On Wednesday, the company announced the launch of an internal citizen data scientist (CDS) platform that will help all employees, regardless of coding or analytical expertise, to leverage their job knowledge and data for insightful discoveries more effectively and essentially equipping them with their own personalized AI assistant.

The CDS platform offers access to AI analysis across all job segments spanning manufacturing, quality control, and sales by developing frequently used business operation analysis templates, including quality prediction, process anomaly detection, and image-based defect classification.

The introduction of the platform has already led to significant outcomes, as exemplified by an employee identifying the optimal conditions for reverse osmosis (RO) membrane production, resulting in a fourfold increase in production rate for the customer-preferred product. Another employee achieved improvements in battery separator product quality within a mere two days after using the AI platform.

The platform’s AI-powered contract review solutions also streamline contract review processes by 30 percent compared to traditional methods, providing contract summaries and flagging high-risk clauses in red, green, and yellow categories based on risk severity.

Real-time product data from LG Chem‘s Yeosu and Daesan factories was available during the platform’s unveiling, and offered a comprehensive view of production, processes, and equipment status as AI analyzed process anomalies across business units. The platform can also be used to verify supplier quotes for appropriate pricing of specific parts or raw materials and tests to predict naphtha prices, carbon emission prices, and exchange rate trends are currently underway. It will also be actively integrated into purchasing and financial operations moving forward.

“This platform is expected to empower all employees to make objective decisions and enhance work efficiency across all segments, ultimately contributing to increased customer value,” the company said.
