South Korean tech giants Samsung and LG made their car electronics solutions provider debut in Europe as they expand their foray into the global automotive industry. In a significant move, both companies participated in the IAA Mobility 2023 event (formerly known as the Frankfurt Motor Show) for the first time, where they showcased cutting-edge automotive technologies to lead the future of mobility.

The 5-day event took place in Munich, Germany, starting September 5.

Samsung Electronics, along with affiliate companies Samsung SDI and Samsung Display, presented a wide range of semiconductor solutions for vehicles spanning from memory and system LSIs to foundry services and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The event marks the beginning of the company’s efforts to establish itself as a provider of semiconductor solutions for vehicles and venture in this new business domain.

As the competition in battery technology intensifies, Samsung SDI drew the attention of event participants with its display of next-generation lineup and premium battery products. The company also showcased an expanded portfolio of battery products and technologies, emphasizing new materials and form factors.

Samsung Display also made its debut at the international motor show, where it demonstrated the advantages of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology while expressing its commitment to boldly transitioning from liquid crystal display (LCD) to OLED in the next-generation car electronics market.

At the event, global IT companies are fighting a fierce battle to be the first to dominate the global car electronics market, considered the future of the electronics industry.

“The car is a personalized digital space. We will develop three themes of future mobility experiences: transformable, explorable, and relaxing,” LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan said. This is the first time LG Electronics has held a press conference for global media and customers at an international motor show.

According to market research firm Omdia, the global automotive semiconductor market has topped $63.5 billion, with projections indicating it will grow to $96.2 billion by 2026.
