South Korean home appliance manufacturer Winix Co. has seen the sales of its window-installed air conditioners soar by an average of more than 160 percent every week since their release in May, the company said Sunday.

Despite entering the market as a latecomer, Winix’s products have captured attention due to the company’s pioneering air conditioning technology known as heat exchange.

The heat exchange mechanism efficiently transfers heat from high-temperature fluids to lower-temperature fluids, making it a crucial component in air conditioning systems.

This year holds special significance for Winix as it marks the 50th anniversary of the company’s establishment. Winix’s predecessor, founded in 1973, achieved a major milestone by becoming the country’s first to localize the heat exchange system technology used in refrigerators.

Heat exchange technology focuses on maximizing heat transfer capacity per unit area, and Winix has successfully secured high-efficiency heat exchange technology, including advancements in heat transfer surface areas.

Winix has dedicated considerable efforts to address the common challenges associated with conventional window-installed air conditioners, such as noise and installation issues.

The Winix window-installed air conditioner is specifically designed to minimize operational noise, while its installation kit features a rubber double barrier that absorbs slight vibrations and effectively blocks external noise, ensuring a more peaceful environment.

The window-installed air conditioner marks the third home appliance introduced by Winix, integrating their cutting-edge heat exchange technology.

Winix’s dehumidifier, initially introduced as its own brand in 1997, surpassed major competitors like LG Electronics Inc. and claimed the leading position in the overall dehumidifier market.

Market data shows that Winix commanded a significant market share of 42.7 percent in online dehumidifier sales last year in Korea, outperforming LG Electronics (28.15 percent), Carrier (9.91 percent), and Winia (7.74 percent). With Winix’s dehumidifier sales in the first half of this year increasing by over 40 percent from a year ago, the company is poised to maintain its dominant position throughout this year.
