For the first time ever, a Korean battery exhibition was held in Europe, the home of the energy market. More than 70 Korean and foreign battery, battery materials and equipment companies, including LG Energy Solution Ltd. and Samsung SDI Co., participated in the event.

On Wednesday (local time), the Korea Battery Industry Association said it held InterBattery Europe 2023 in Munich, Germany, in collaboration with COEX and KOTRA. The event will be held for three days until June 16.

As it is the first event of its kind in Europe, the organizers held it simultaneously with The smarter E Europe, Europe’s largest energy exhibition, to ensure the event was well received. The smarter E Europe’s exhibition has topics such as energy storage system (ESS), solar power, charging infrastructure, and smart energy.

At the event, European visitors showed great interest in ESS technologies from Korean companies while demand for ESS is increasing as the global carbon neutrality policy accelerates and interest in renewable energy increases.

On the day, Messe M?nchen, an exhibition space of about 200,000 square meters, was bustling with visitors who came to see Korean ESS products. ESS is a device that improves energy efficiency by storing generated electricity and supplying it when needed.

Europe, which has been highly dependent on Russian natural gas, is experiencing an energy crisis due to the prolonged Russian-Ukrainian war, and there is a need to develop high-capacity and low-cost ESS systems.

At the exhibition, LG Energy Solution attracted attention for its new brand of residential ESS, “enblock”. The company also unveiled its first lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based residential ESS product. In line with the unveiling of the new brand, the company introduced its new residential ESS products “enblock E” and “enblock S” for the first time.

Samsung SDI highlighted “Samsung Battery Box (SBB)”, an industry-leading high-capacity battery for ESS. The SBB, which was unveiled overseas for the first time, is a product that preconfigures the battery cells and modules inside the ESS into a single box.
