South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. is set to apply advanced, environmentally-friendly features to its home appliances, such as an artificial intelligence (AI) saving mode that saves up to 70 percent of energy use and a washing filter that removes microplastics.

According to Samsung Electronics on Thursday, the company’s Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, also the head of the device experience (DX) division, unveiled a wide range of environmentally-friendly features for its devices at the “Bespoke Life 2023” held online on Wednesday.

Among the features, Samsung Electronics’ energy AI saving mode in its mobile app SmartThings will be available for Bespoke home appliances including refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers.

The AI mode will be released in 65 countries this year. The company plans to support the AI saving mode not just for new Bespoke products but also for existing ones through software updates.

Samsung Electronics also showcased a microplastic filter for washing machines that can reduce microplastic emissions from washing. The filter will be released in the U.K. and New Zealand this month. It will also be available in North America and Europe in the third quarter.

The microplastic filter is made from recycled plastic materials. It filters up to 98 percent of microplastic emissions, which means that it can eliminate microplastics equivalent to eight 500-milliliter polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles per household every year. It can be purchased from samsung.com from Thursday at the factory price of 150,000 won ($15.56).

Samsung Electronics also announced plans to release its vacuum cleaner Bespoke Jet AI overseas. The product will be launched in Europe such as France and Italy, as well as the U.S. and Australia this month.

Bespoke Jet AI, which was first released in Korea in March, has a super strong suction power of 280 watts and can be used for up to 100 minutes on a single charge.

When the AI mode is on, it automatically adjusts the suction power and brush speed according to external environments such as floor condition.

Samsung Electronics currently has AI technology installed for seven product categories sold overseas, including refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, and vacuum cleaners.
