Kakao launches time-limited comment service Time Talk for Daum portal

South Korean platform giant Kakao Corp. has launched a new form of comment service for its portal site Daum, which allows real-time communication among the users.

Kakao on Thursday renamed its comment service of Daum News to “Time Talk,” which offers a time-limited comment service when readers begin to consume articles.

Time Talk allows readers to casually share their views on the articles just as they do with their friends and family. The service is available for articles in all categories for only 24 hours to ensure that conversations and comments consistent with the article are shared.

Kakao announced last month that it will revamp the Daum News comment service to enhance real-time communication and minimize adverse effects of comments.

“We have been leading various policies and features to establish a better comment service and public debate culture,” said an unnamed official from Kakao. “Time Talk is a new space for communication and an interactive comment service centered on real-time communication.”

Kakao plans to retain its existing posting management policy, under which posts suspected of defamation, slander, profanity, sexual provocation, or advertising are subject to regulation.

Kakao also upgraded the function of Safebot, which detects profanity or messages that are offensive from comments with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The company stresses that Safebot is no longer an optional feature and will be uniformly applied to all comments.
