Hanjin optimistic about airline merger

A top executive at Hanjin Group, which owns South Korean flag carrier Korean Airlines Co., urged unity among his employees during a ceremonial event amid the carrier‘s ongoing acquisition of Asiana Airlines Inc.

“The long-standing review of corporate merger with Asiana Airlines is going to reach its conclusion,” Hanjin Group Chairman Walter Cho said during Korean Air Lines’ 55th-anniversary celebration at the company‘s headquarters in Seoul on Monday.

“Inspired by its founding principles, Korean Airlines has traversed a challenging path with an unwavering unity of purpose,” Cho continued. “Just like a resilient tree, which grows denser growth rings and tighter patterns during the harshest of winters, our journey was peppered with challenges, particularly since the decision to acquire Asiana Airlines was made. Yet, with diligent nurturing of our combined capabilities, we envision the integrated airline blossoming into a beacon within the global aviation landscape,” he said.
