South Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) announced the successful commencement of power supply at the fourth and final unit of the Korean-built Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to KEPCO on Sunday, the operator of the UAE nuclear power plant announced that its No. 4 reactor has successfully connected to the transmission grid on Saturday.
Grid connection refers to supplying electricity generated at a nuclear power plant to households or industrial sites through transmission lines.
Barakah Unit 4 is scheduled to begin commercial operation this year after completing subsequent tests, including power ramp-up tests.
The Barakah nuclear power plant is expected to provide around 25 percent of the UAE’s electricity demand once all of the four units are in operation.
