Seven out of ten Korean companies (65.4 percent) are willing to impose disadvantages on applicants for positions in their companies if they use ChatGPT to write their self-introduction letters. This revelation comes from the hiring trend survey for the second half of 2023 that was released by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Employment Information Service on Sunday.

According to the survey, human resources and hiring managers prioritize job-related experience when making decisions about new hires, with 35.6 percent stating this as their preference. Concerning experience, long-term internships were found to be the most preferred type of job experience, with 74 percent of respondents expressing this preference.

Both companies and job seekers anticipate an increase in the usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in future recruitment processes. But companies said self-introduction letters written by job seekers using ChatGPT lacked originality and creativity, resulting in negative feedback from 64.1 percent of respondents.

The survey targeted hiring managers of the top 500 companies based on revenue.
